DREAM THEATER Drummer On RADIOHEAD's Digital-Download Release: 'I Envy Them'
November 26, 2007DREAM THEATER drummer Mike Portnoy recently sat down in Barcelona with Sergi Ramos from TheMetalCircus.com and spoke about a number of topics, such as family life, new business models for releasing albums and getting a taste of running a record company by releasing the official bootlegs of his own band.
"I have this inmense archive that I want to share with the fans," said Portnoy. "Because I know what it is to be a fan".
The drummer also spoke about RADIOHEAD's recent Internet-only album release where fans were asked to pay whatever amount they felt like paying once they had downloaded the CD. "I envy them," said Portnoy. "I think it's awesome that they can do it and I love the fact that the album is so quickly available. Regarding the fans choosing their own price... that could be financial suicide for them but in a way it's also kind of cool because it shows it's not just about the money for them."
